Self Oscillation Sessions was recorded on Monday 30th March 2020 as the coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown came into place. The title is a skit on the act of self-isolation which, unheard of two weeks ago, is now commonplace. Up until yesterday, it was other people, today it's me and my family. There is always good which comes from bad situations, social media soon filled up with artists and musicians doing live broadcasts from their bedrooms, kitchens, and balconies; some of it has been excellent, all of it has been uplifting and positive.
So this is my contribution, for now as we don't know how long we will be locked down, self-isolating and socially distancing. It comprises 2 segments cut from about 3 hours of improvised synth noise, extended soundscapes and long ponderous accumulations of analog resonance using a Moog Sub Phatty through an Eventide Pitchfactor, Electro Harmonix Platform and the trusty trio of TC Electronics Triple Delay, Ditto, and Hall of Fame.
These recordings are for long periods of sitting, lying there, saving the world. This is for staring out of windows, waving at and waiting for, people. I dedicate this to our NHS, supermarket staff and all of those who are being adversely affected by all of this.
The recordings were mixed and mastered on Tuesday 31st March by James Green (Bearhug Studios) whose wizardry and lightness of touch breathes real life into my efforts.
